Magical Doorway

Well, Happy New Year everybody! I am pretty excited about the new year. I have signed up for no less than 30 classes over the past year or so, and am finally going to buckle down and involve myself in some of them. I have Sagittarius rising, so I love to dabble in new (and old) areas of knowledge. It’s also probably why I find myself living in a van, despite my Libra Sun’s desire for comfort and to be surrounded by beauty. 

I am first going to be dabbling in a loose, abstracts class. While I have been an abstract artist for over 25 years, I have spent the last two or so doing really tight illustrations, and I just want to loosen up a bit - or a lot. 

Since 2009, I have been trying to align my art with the art licensing field. In 2012 or so, I gained a licensee that I still have today. They are happy enough with my abstract style because they are basically a home decor company, and my abstracts look good on home decor. 

As mentioned previously, I took about ten years off of art out of necessity to attend to life’s issues, and I have been back learning Procreate and trying to do more of a tight, illustrative style which might lend itself to art licensing. 

I sometimes feel as if I am barking up the wrong tree in that regard. Like, although I put my shoes on, they are just on the wrong feet. Add to this sentiment the fact that meta and AI did us dirty, and I seem to care less and less about trying to please some industry that doesn’t care, while hungry robots eat our work for dinner, poop it out and call it art.

I have only been sharing new art on Instagram that is obscured by light and shadow, hands and arms, and on some kind of oblique angle. Eff it.

This year I am wanting to create the Oracle deck I have been wanting to create since I was in high school. I will see how this goes, and if it goes well, I will share snippets along the way. To me, creating this deck is the perfect opportunity to combine abstract art, illustrations, and mystical sensitivities…which brings me to the topic of this post:

 
I have created an abstract piece for the advent of 2025. It also bears the phrase I have chosen to represent my hopes for the new year, Magical Doorway. While. I hope this for me, I also hope it for you.
